Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish
The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian Life” (Lumen Gentium 11) and provides a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ which helps faithful people grow in relationship with Christ. There are many opportunities to participate in this greatest mystery of our faith at St. Athanasius Parish. The Faithful may receive Eucharist daily at any of our scheduled Masses, funeral Masses, and special occaision Masses. In addition, the Eucharist is reserved in the Tabernacle and is available for private prayer throughout the day.
The Eucharist is one of the Sacraments of Intiation into the Catholic faith, and Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is truly and miraculously present in the Eucharist. For this reason, preparation is necessary before receiving Eucharist for the first time. For details on our preparation program for Eucharist, please contact the Faith Formation Office.
FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST
We look forward to our children joining us at the Table of the Lord each Sunday receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. First Communion as well as First Reconciliation normally takes place during the second grade. Attendance in first grade is a prerequisite to be prepared for the sacraments in the second grade. Parents are expected to take an active part in the preparation for these sacraments.
